Workshop: A Next-Generation Pandemic PPE Enterprise for Asia
Blueprint Biosecurity will be hosting a fully funded 1.5-day workshop with Dr. Michael Friedman of the Asia Center for Health Security on personal protective equipment (PPE) in future pandemics.
This workshop will bring together a hand-selected group of PPE champions, researchers, and manufacturers along with national stockpile decision makers in multiple Asian countries for the first time. We will discuss opportunities to ensure vital workers have enough appropriate PPE in the next pandemic, and to envision what a “next-gen pandemic PPE enterprise” looks like in the Asian context.
All countries need a long-term PPE strategy to protect vital workers during future pandemics–however severe they may be–and achieve effective, sustainable infection prevention and control. We envision this workshop as an initial effort to synthesize realistic forecasts of PPE demand and supply, PPE innovations, the science of PPE effectiveness, and practical behavior change to develop or improve country PPE-related strategic plans. The workshop will build on two years of groundwork that went into our situational report, the Next-Generation PPE Blueprint, and similar stakeholder meetings in the US.
This meeting will be in person and closed-door, no press will be present, and all discussion will be under a no-attribution rule. All prospective participants will be handpicked and vetted to ensure that the workshop brings together true PPE and infection prevention champions from the focus region.

Who We Are
Blueprint Biosecurity is a US-based nonprofit organization focused on achieving breakthroughs in pandemic prevention, mitigation, and suppression countermeasures.
We recently released our Next-Generation PPE Blueprint, the result of a yearlong, 10,000+ hour study on gaps in the global PPE enterprise. The Blueprint outlines gaps in PPE design, approval, stockpiling, manufacturing, and usage; recommendations for PPE stockpiling; and investment options to improve PPE functionality and supply in future pandemics.
In 2023, we worked with Deloitte to convene similar workshops in Washington, DC that included stakeholders from the US Department of Defense (DoD) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the EU Health Emergencies and Response Authority (HERA), and the White House.
